new to FAEtool

BP
Hi i am just exploring the possibilities of the FAETool,

maybe you can help,

i would like to import multiple STL files into one domain to perform a Conductive DC analysis and determine the current through a flat wire with holes.

therefore i would like to import multiple STL files into one  domain.
is this possible? and easy to setup?

this will determine to buy Matlab PDE Modeler or FAE TOOL

Hi,

Yes, FEATool Multiphysics support geometry import with multiple STL
 (files other CAD formats).

As for STL files, how well it will work with simulation depends on the quality of your STL files. Especially for geometries defined by multiple STL files it is better if the various boundaries between subdomains are aligned with each other (to help identify unique boundaries). I would probably simply download and try to see how well it works:

https://www.featool.com/download

Also please see the corresponding section of the documentation regarding CAD geometry and STL import:

Re: new to FAEtool

i currently succeeded in uploading a STEP file, the stl files i have are all closed geometries which i dont need for conductive media DC example. i need to select two sides of the wire (i have watched the Tungsten Wire example a few times. many thanks.

however i discovered the mesh produces crystals: I would like to check the mesh of my drawing.

in the pop up box, grid generation algorithm, i have set it to robust, subdomain to 6.8 (standard), quality very low. and press generate, it generates the mesh but it all looks like crystals. if i change the mesh size, it looks like less crystals.

I expect that i have to repair the Step file,

i have installed the meshmixer from Autodesk,

please advise what to do.

Hi, would it be possible for you to share the model and geometry, or possibly a simplified generic one showing the same issues, otherwise it is quite hard to give specific advice.
