Search in documentation

Leon Robers
Hello

Somehow the search functionality in the documentation doesn't work. It doesn't hurry to fix it, but it still would be nice to be able to search keywords in the future :) Or maybe you could provide a pdf to download the whole thing.

Thanks

Thank you for mentioning this. The issue should be fixed by the next release at the latest.

Did the documentation search get fixed? Still can't get it to work for me...

BTW, I too would be interested in a paginated (letter) printable file (pdf).

It should be working now, thanks for the reminder.

A PDF version of the FEATool documentation is also planned eventually to be made available again (unfortunately it is a quite manual task to make nice pagination and formatting, at least using the current documentation system).

Can you please clarify: do you mean to say that it works for you now, or that it should be working now but it still is not?

Yes, using the search field in https://www.featool.com/doc should be working now (at least when I try it does). If it still doesn't you probably need to enable Javascript for the featool domain in your web browser, and maybe clear your cache for the site.

Alternatively, you can also use Google to search like for example by entering

    boundary site:www.featool.com/doc

in to the Google search field to look for matches with for the term "boundary" (for all pages under "www.featool.com/doc").

    boundary site:www.featool.com/doc
certainly does work for me. I will tinker with the browser/java issue later. Thanks.

Good to hear.  Are there any other alternative forms (single document text) presently available?

Although the details are not up to date, the general modeling should still be the same in the old PDF documentation:

https://www.featool.com/download/featool-quickstart.pdf
https://www.featool.com/download/featool-usersguide.pdf

For a beginner like me, this should be a great help. Glad I asked :-)

The functionality that I get is the ability to locate certain key words (like section titles/heads) and matlab script/commands.

But it still will not locate the word "Welcome" (see previous DocSearch.jpg, attached to the thread head message.)

I have tried 3 browsers.  Is this what is expected? Or are there still browser issues that I need to track down?

Yes, this is the search functionality available with the current documentation system. Please use the google workaround posted above if you wish to search for any word or term.

Entering a "string/term" in the "Search" box of the documentation and pressing "Return/Enter" should now automatically trigger a web search to the "string/term" limited to the https://www.featool/doc domain.
