Hello,

I'd really like to have a detailed installation guide for linking OpenFoam with FEATool. I know, there is a short documentation, but I haven't the foggiest Idea what

'For MacOS systems OpenFOAM needs to be compiled from source and installed in the folder /opt/openfoam'

means. I'm also not into system programming that much, thus a step by step installation with terminal on Mac
would be really nice. :D

When considering CPU choices, what features will contribute to significant increase in performance (speed) when running MATLAB/FEATool using gmsh and linear solvers? Specifically:

1. At what point do more cores produce little if any speed up? 4, 8, 16?

2. How does enabling hyper-threading affect execution speed?

I realize that most questions like this can only be answered accurately by "it depends" :-). I also know that other things come into play such as quantity and speed of memory (that's for another question) and perhaps O/S. Even so, any comments are welcomed.

Thanks,

Hello everyone,

I have a little project and that will help us all here in our forum!
I want to create a multibody mesh with opensource programs like FreeCAD and Salome and later with GMSH.

I found this article:
http://onelab.info/pipermail/gmsh/2015/010110.htm

I used before Star CCM+ and it was no problem for making conformal multibody meshing but I don’t want to use it anymore. With CFMesh+ it’s also possible and I tried it, it works fine! But as I said I want to use opensource programs.

I tried something:
I made a reactionzone (inner pipe) and a pipe which have a bigger diameter at the same point (on XY Plane). Like in this picture:
FreeCAD before boolean operations —> https://i.imgur.com/gNWLMJj.png

As I said I made many conformal mesh in my life and knows it’s better to make a differenz between the reactionzone+sweep and the reactionzone. So the result is only the sweep which is around the inner pipe (reactionzone). After I did a bollean operations —> FreeCAD after boolean oprations: https://i.imgur.com/VQwWLWD.png

Than I exported booth step files and import it into Salome.
Salome before partitioned: https://i.imgur.com/J89FvOM.png

Than I did the partition but is it right with solid? Or maybe shell?
Salome partition: https://i.imgur.com/ffSQDE6.png

After partition it’s looks like so —> Salome after partitioned:
https://i.imgur.com/J89FvOM.png

Here I found one very usefull video:
https://youtu.be/U4qTv7UFFdA

This is my effort from today after using first time both softwares. I am sure that we can fix the case.

In the last Video (YouTube) the man using two cubes and the one cube 1 (the ground) is conected to the bottom auf Cube 1. Than he said that cube 1 the ground is the fix area and from cube 2 the over bottom is the top.. but what subtle fix and top area in my case?

My desired result: a multibody region where I can define two different physics and the boundary layer to the next region not will be merged. The most conformal mesh tutorial make two geometries one, but I want two separate from each other but where the nodes meet.

Thanks a lot and I hope we will solve this case.

Big regards

CFD2D

PS: after it works in Salome, I want to try it in GMSH (after partitioned in Salome). Than write a Pythonskript that make all automatically and all in this forum can use it.

But how I can put it on a cylinder and a hole-cylinder who including the first one like in my picture?

Edit: we solved today the problem 💪🙏

Hello Dear,

I have a question about the license. Me and my partner would like to simulate something using Featool. We would like to integrate the CAD software and the meshing program into Simulink on one computer using a Matlab parallel server and integrate FeaTool into Simulink via Matlab scripting on the other computer and make improvements to our process using the Matlab optimization toolbox.

Question1: is it possible to run FeaTool like a multicore simulation (like Matlab scripting) with only using one license?

Question2: is it possible - if you use matlab parallel server - to also simulate the simulation in FeaTool in a cluster? And what about the license in this case?

Question2 would be good, but clustering FeaTool is not absolutely necessary (at the moment).

Best regards!

Hi!

1) Quick question - is it possible to upgrade from CFDTool Perpetual License to FEATool Perpetual License? Do I just pay the price difference?

2) What are the terms of the personal use license?

Thank you!

I want to know units of parameters in the equation. For example, the unit of rho, the unit of viscosity, and others. But I didn't find any relevant explanation.

Hello everyone,

I have a few questions:

1. Does this program work without the need to have MATLAB?
2. I tried to install the program on linux, but it failed with an error. What is the exact process to install it?

1. Can you compare / contrast FEAtool and CFDtool, beyond the obvious that one supports only CFD and one supports CFD plus other models.

2. The trial works when I do basic simulations on my M1 mac, so it seems that it is not quite true that M1 ARM is not supported. Is it that it runs rosetta and is therefore slower?

3. I note that the software states that it does not support Docker, which seems to be a problem for those of us using OSX who would like to use openFOAM. Is there a workaround or plans to support Docker?

Thanks, this is a really impressive tool!

Hi

I want to use FEAtools for generating 2D-mesh on my 2D artwork.
I recently bought the CFD-tool, but figured what i need, is the multiphysics-pack (for the triangle mesh generation)

What are my options? Seems like i bought the wrong package.

Would two licenses be required to operate FEATool when running either Windows or Linux on one computer that is set to boot at startup to either Windows 10 or Ubuntu (e.g.)?

Today on starting FEATool the splash screen appeared.

I took the "Accept" path but was halted later when I attempted to execute a command that required a license...hmmm

I restarted FEATool a second time and selected "License", entered my registration token and got:

Have I been a bad boy?

:-)

PS I had to reinstall my network adapter drivers. Could this have done me in?

I noticed here http://forum.featool.com/Importing-gmsh-mesh-file-with-several-subdomains-tp315p354.html that FEATool 1.12.2 is available.

I cannot find it from the Matlab toolbox management page(s) ... should I wait until they update it or install it using some other method?

I am working on an issue requiring gmsh export and import and subdomain integrity. I want to be sure I using the latest capabilities. (I am trying to use gmsh to bisect subdomains with a cut plane in order to make progress on this: http://forum.featool.com/Integration-of-Current-Density-over-Slice-Intersection-tp180p182.html)

Kind regards,

Dear FEATool Officer,

My name is Natee Panagant from Khon Kaen University, Thailand.
I have some question about license of the FEATool.

1) Is the FEATool is freeware?
2) Do I need to pay any additional charge, if I want to use the FEATool in my research?
